About the field trip
This field trip is part of EDF6324 European perspectives on music education, a unit within the Master of Education (Music Education) program offered by the Faculty of Education.
Participants not enrolled in the unit are also welcome! A limited number of places will be available for participants not enrolled in the unit, allocated in order of receipt of application and deposit.
The field trip runs once every two years. It offers participants a chance to revisit the roots of some of the music education approaches studied in the unit, while exploring the rich musical life of central Europe.
Highlights of the tour include:
- Observation and participation in classes at the renowned Dalcroze Institute in Geneva
- Vienna’s hi-tech, interactive music museum ‘Haus der Musik.’
- Former residences of composers such as Beethoven, Haydn, Liszt and Mozart
- Observation of music classes in a Hungarian school
- A special five day program at the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét , Hungary
- A visit to the Budapest Folk Music School
- Access to a stunning variety of theatre and music (two concerts included in price)
- Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart and home of the Orff Institute
- Free time to explore the delights of Geneva, Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest and Kecskemét.
The size of the group is usually around 16. A limited number of places will be available for participants not enrolled in the unit, allocated in order of receipt of application and deposit. While this trip will have most appeal for music teachers or students, others with an interest in the focus of the tour are welcome to apply. Participation in the classes is not compulsory for non-enrolled students.
Accommodation will be in comfortable 3-star hotels. They are centrally located so that we can reach most places of interest on foot, or with some use of public transport. All rooms will have en suite bathrooms, and breakfast is included.
Travel to and from Europe
Air travel to and from Europe is not included in the tour and must be purchased separately. For more information, see Frequently Asked Questions.
