English language requirements for an Honours degree

The following English language requirements:
  • are effective from July 2008
  • apply to both domestic and international students

Honours degree of Bachelor of Education offered by the Faculty of Education has the following minimum English language requirements:

  1. At least two years of study (preferably in the last five years) in a university or approved tertiary institution where English is the language of instruction and assessment of the entire institution, and this is verified by the institution;
    OR
  2. IELTS (academic) of at least 6.5 with at least 6.5 on reading and listening and at least 6.0 on writing and speaking;
    OR
  3. Paper-based TOEFL score of at least 580 with a TWE of at least 4.5, or an internet-based score of at least 90 with at least 22 on writing and speaking and 20 on listening and reading. [Note: a computer-based TOEFL score of at least 237 with an Essay Rating (ER) of at least 4.5 will be accepted for entry in 2008, but it is no longer valid from 2009 onwards.];
    OR
  4. Successful completion of the Monash University English Language Bridging Program (MUELBP) or an equivalent program, at the appropriate level. See guidelines for entry into MUELBP.

Note: All test scores must be no more than 2 years old at the time of application [or accompanied by evidence of subsequent substantial study in a tertiary institution where courses are taught and assessed in English].
