Performance management for staff

Why Performance Management?

Through the Monash performance management process general and academic staff work in partnership with their supervisors to ensure that performance and development goals align with the strategic and operational objectives of the university and also address individual learning needs of every staff member.

Whilst Performance Management is an EBA requirement for all academic staff and general staff at HEW 5 and above, it is Faculty practice that everybody participates.

You are encouraged to use the Performance Management process in ways that may benefit their own professional development. It can be considered a forum to:

  • clarify role (expectations and responsibilities)
  • reduce work uncertainty, which helps improve job satisfaction
  • discuss work related problems and developing solutions
  • provide two-way face to face feedback
  • link individual performance to broader strategic plans and key objectives
  • discussing individual goals, objectives and career development
  • recognise good performance and achievements
  • identify training and development needs
  • focus on coaching and development of staff

Faculty guidelines

We aim to keep the performance management process as uncomplicated as possible for everyone.

The following guidelines have been created to assist you in completing the performance management documentation:
