Research Degrees Sub-committee

This sub-committee is no longer operational.

The Research Degrees Sub-committee manages candidature, research examinations and the allocation of research funds for students, consistent with Faculty policies and processes and advises and reports to Research Induction Committee.

Meetings 2007

The Committee will normally meet a minimum of three times per year but may be convened as needed to deal with examiners reports.

Term of Office

Nominated members will normally hold office for one year.

Terms of Reference

  1. To recommend to Research Induction Committee on the admission and progress of research masters and BEd (Honours) candidates and the award of scholarships
  2. To recommend to Monash Research Graduate School on the admission and progress of doctoral candidates, the award of scholarships and the conduct of doctoral thesis examinations
  3. To monitor the appointment of research supervisors
  4. To consider and make recommendations to the Research Induction Committee on research thesis examination issues (eg guidelines provided to examiners, selection of examiners)
  5. To approve criteria for, and monitor the appointment of, Masters theses examiners
  6. To determine final Masters research theses results based on examiners' reports
  7. To review, annually, research degrees examination processes and to propose and develop changes when considered necessary
  8. To determine recipients of scholarships and awards
  9. To forward reports on examination results, scholarships and awards to the Research Induction Committee.
  10. To allocate research funds to graduate students consistent with Faculty policy
  11. To monitor the expenditure of funds allocated to students and to recommend on the reallocation of unexpended funds
  12. To receive reports from recipients of Faculty funds on the outcomes of the funded work
  13. To consider and make recommendations to the Research Induction Committee on issues relating to the allocation of funds to support the research of students.

Terms of reference will be evaluated after two years.
