New BOE (Board of Examiners) arrangements Sem 2, 2009 BOE cycle

29 October 2009

Geoffrey Romeo

Dear Colleagues,

The Faculty of Education will change the way it structures its Board of Examiners (BOE) meetings from now on. Thecurrent arrangement, where BOE's meet "by campus" on three separate occasions in each of Semesters 1 & 2, will be replaced by BOE's which meet "by course groups" on only two separate occasions (by video link from each of the 3 main video conference
rooms) in each of Semesters 1 & 2. The new meetingarrangement for the Semester 2 BOE's  will be:

Monday, 30 November 2009 @ 2pm - All undergraduate courses, GradDipEd(EC), GradDipEd(Primary), GradDipEd(Secondary) and all courses offered via Open  Universities Australia

Tuesday, 1 December 2009 @ 10am - All postgraduate courses and graduate courses not listed above

The video conference locations will be: Clayton: Room G08 Building 6; Gippsland: Staffroom Building 2S; Peninsula: A3.30 Building A

Please note these dates in your diary.

Preparing for the upcoming BOE's ...

All academic staff will soon receive the usual "Memo to Staff" which outlines the key dates, responsibilities and processes to be followed in relation to the Semester 2, 2009.

The Faculty is also finalising  a new Agenda format for the new BOE arrangements. The BOE Register will be kept in 'course code order' as the default and the "individual pages" will not be turned and commented on as was previously the case.  However, within the new Agenda, staff will be
given the opportunity to comment on any results issues before the "Confirmation of Results" step when "all results on the register for each course, having noted particular items raised earlier in the agenda, be confirmed without further discussion". This should reduce the BOE meeting time considerably. Key academic staff attending the BOE's will receive relevant sections of the "Register" prior to the BOE Meeting from their campus based BOE secretary.

Regards
Geoff
