Research Winter School

The Research Winter School is an important event on the research calendar. The Faculty of Education views research as one of its core responsibilities and is committed to supporting its research students. The Winter School is aimed at research students; it provides a variety of workshops and seminars that would be useful to all research students at different stages of their candidature. There is a wide range of topics covered.

Attend the Winter School to satisfy your residency requirements!

All the External (off-campus) HDR students are eligible to apply for the Monash Travel Grant if they reside interstate or overseas. Travel Grant applicants must be presenting a paper in the MERC Conference and preferably attending sessions in the Winter School. Faculty strongly encourages external students to attend the Winter School to meet their residency requirements:

  • Doctoral
External doctoral students are required to visit the campus for 15 working days (soon to be 5 working days) per year (full time) or per two years (part time) to meet with their supervisor, do library research and attend Faculty seminars, etc.
  • Masters
Residency for masters students is 10 working days per year (full time) or per two years (part time).

Special features

  • Part-time students! We have special evening sessions for you.
  • Unique social environment: research students will have the opportunity to meet with other research students, their supervisors and other academics with similar interests and form useful networks.
  • MERC (Monash Education Research Community) Conference will be held during the Winter School. It is an excellent opportunity for research students to ‘showcase’ their research by presenting a topic in a friendly environment. Visit the conference's website for more information and a call for papers.
  • FREE parking is available in some of the parking areas on the campus during the time of the Winter School.
