Ethics Approval - University's Research Office

All research projects involving humans require ethical approval. Research Projects cannot begin until you receive a written letter of approval from the University's Standing Committee on Ethics in Research Involving Humans (SCERH).

Faculty Process:

All student applications must be read and approved by the Director Research Degrees before being forwarded to SCERH for approval. She will not sign off on the application until she is satisfied that it complies with the University's ethics guidelines.

The student should:

  • Hand in the original copy of their ethics application (signed by themselves and their supervisor) and supporting documentation to the Research Degrees Office (room G06, Clayton) by the Faculty deadline
  • Send the electronic copy of their application directly to scerh@adm.monash.edu.au

The Research Office will then:

  1. Liaise with the Director of Research Degrees to obtain their signature.
  2. Liaise with students regarding any suggested amendments.
  3. Take three copies of the application and hand deliver to the Ethics Committee

The Faculty submission deadlines have been set to allow students and their supervisors time to make any amendments before the University deadline. If you submit your application after the specified Faculty deadlines, we can not guarantee that it will be approved and forwarded for your preferred committee meeting.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the Research Degrees Office on 990 59498.
