Placement allocations

With the exception of community placements, all placements are allocated by the Professional Placements Office on your behalf. Please do not coordinate your own placement or contact any school/centre directly to request a placement.

When making placement allocations, the Professional Placements Office strives for equitable outcomes for all pre service teachers. We spend a significant amount of time referring to the information you have provided via the Placement Questionnaire and also through any Placement Consideration Applications.

Placement questionnaire

The purpose of the Placement Questionnaire is to allow the Professional Placements Office to gather information that will assist them when allocating your teaching placements. It is your opportunity to communicate to the Placements Office on key criteria referred to when making student placement allocations. All of the information you provide will be referred to and used as a guide when making placement allocations.

This questionnaire is open for a limited time:

• at the beginning of the academic year for commencing pre-service teachers, and
• at the end of each academic year for returning pre-service teachers.

This questionnaire needs to be completed every year. Any previously completed questionnaires will not be referred to.

Notification of placement allocations

The Professional Placements Office will inform pre-service teachers via their Monash student email address, of their placement allocation. Majority of students can expect to be contacted by the Professional Placements Office no later than 2 weeks prior to the commencement of their placement. 

The Professional Placements Office appreciates that pre-service teachers may be anxious to have the details of their placement confirmed well before 2 weeks prior to placement commencement, however logistics do not always make this possible.  We request that you do not phone the Professional Placements Office any earlier than 2 weeks prior to your placement commencement as the placement process will be hampered. However, feel free to email us at any time.

The Professional Placements Office will endeavour to have all pre-service teachers placed for the scheduled placement period. However, on occasion, due to restricted placement availability, it may be necessary for placements to be arranged outside the nominated placement period. Pre-service teachers who may be required to undertake placement outside of the nominated period will be advised by the Professional Placements Office.
